Eu quando saio pelo mar afora

When I go out to the sea

Faço de conta que já vou embora

I pretend that I am already leaving

Mas apenas fico nas mentiras

But I just stay in the lies

Que matam por momentos desventuras!

That kill for moments of misfortune!

Tantas gaivotas rodeando o barco

So many seagulls circling the boat

Como crianças rodeando adultos

Like children surrounding adults

Gaivotas e crianças se misturam

Seagulls and children mix

E fazem do meu barco a minha calma

And make my boat my calm

Meu corpo balança sobre as águas

My body sways over the waters

E o olhar se afoga no meu pranto

And the gaze drowns in my tears

É que eu bem distante lá da terra

Because I, far away from the land

Não compreendo gente que maltrata e erra

Do not understand people who mistreat and err

Minhas mágoas, tantas frustrações

My sorrows, so many frustrations

Eu vou deixar neste mar, quando anoitecer

I will leave in this sea, when night falls

E lá em casa ninguém vai saber

And at home, no one will know

Quando eu chegar, vou sorrir e adormecer

When I arrive, I will smile and fall asleep

Quando eu paro o barco em águas mansas

When I stop the boat in calm waters

Olho de repente pras alturas

I suddenly look to the heights

E percebo em meio a nuvens brancas

And I perceive amidst white clouds

Uma gaivota calma e solitária

A calm and solitary seagull

Ela deve estar olhando o mundo

She must be looking at the world

E tomando conta das pessoas

And taking care of people

Esta gaivota é importante

This seagull is important

É pena que ela fique tão distante

It's a pity that she stays so far away

Eu perdido em tantos pensamentos

Lost in so many thoughts

Me pergunto as vezes se ela sabe

I wonder sometimes if she knows

Que o amor se perde por dinheiro

That love is lost for money

E o homem se destrói no mundo inteiro

And man destroys himself in the whole world

Mas lá em casa

But at home

Ninguém vai saber

No one will know

Quando eu chegar

When I arrive

Vou sorrir e adormecer!!

I will smile and fall asleep!
