Fiquei parado no terreiro relembrando

I stood still in the courtyard remembering

Fechei os olhos e corri todo quintal no meu cavalo de pau

I closed my eyes and ran through the whole yard on my stick horse

Que eu chamava de trequinho

Ouvi os cantos dos passarinhos de casa

I heard the songs of the birds from home

Que papai podou as asas pra que não fossem embora

That Dad trimmed their wings so they wouldn't fly away

E se tivesse também podado as minhas

Com certeza eu não tinha me jogado mundo a fora

Eu fui entrando e direto pra cozinha parei atrás da velhinha

Minhas lágrimas rolando e eu travado ali no chão

My tears rolling, and I stuck there on the floor

I embraced my treasure, my old lady

Mas um rastar de chinela fez saltar meu coração

But a slipper's shuffle made my heart jump

Olhei pra traz e ali estava meu velhinho

I looked back, and there was my old man

Enrugado curvadinho preto da cor de carvão

Wrinkled, bent, black as coal

Sentei com eles na varanda da cozinha papai trouxe violinha

I sat with them on the kitchen porch, Dad brought a little guitar

E pediu pra eu cantar e aquela voz tremida quase que falhando

And asked me to sing, and that trembling voice, almost faltering

Ainda foi me acompanhando pai e filho a duetar

Still accompanied me, father and son duetting

E os meus irmãos aos poucos foram se juntando

And my brothers gradually joined

A cantoria aumentando mas o final eu não sei

The singing increasing, but I don't know the ending

Quando o caminhão parou no canavial tudo voltou ao normal

When the truck stopped in the sugarcane field, everything returned to normal

Alguém gritou eu acordei

Someone shouted, I woke up

Foi tão real que parecia de verdade sonhei com a felicidade
