Onde a natureza

Where nature

Respira profundo

Breathes deeply

No chão do sertão

On the ground of the backlands

Do meu lugar

From my place

Se chovesse

If it rained

E ficasse todinho molhado

And everything got soaked

Não tinha deixado

It wouldn't have let

Meu sertão torrar

My backlands scorch

Esse dom que o Nordeste

This gift that the Northeast

Tem desde o passado

Has since the past

Faz o nordestino

Makes the Northeasterner

Viver a cantar

Live singing

Mas com toda a riqueza desse mundo

But with all the richness of this world

Nosso povo não queria sair

Our people didn't want to leave

Padecer num sofrimento profundo

Suffering deep sorrow

Só porque nós queremos existir

Just because we want to exist

Sertão é Nordeste brasileiro

Backlands are the Brazilian Northeast

E nada queremos do estrangeiro

And we want nothing from abroad

As coisas mais nossas são beleza

The most ours are beauty
