Pra crescer a minha roça e vingar a criação

For my crop to grow and prosper the creation

Pois veio a seca e matou meu cafezal

Because the drought came and killed my coffee plantation

Matou todo meu arroz e secou todo o algodão!

Killed all my rice and dried up all the cotton!

Nessa colheita, meu carro ficou parado

In this harvest, my car stood still

Minha boiada carreira quase morreu sem pastar

My running herd almost died without grazing

Eu fiz promessa que o primeiro pingo d'água

I made a promise that at the first drop of water

Eu molhava a flor da Santa que estava em frente ao altar

I would wet the flower of Santa that was in front of the altar

Eu esperei uma semana, um mês inteiro

I waited a week, a whole month

A roça estava seca, dava pena até de ver!

The field was dry, it was pitiful to even see!

Olhava o céu, cada nuvem que passava

I looked at the sky, every passing cloud

Eu da Santa me lembrava, pra promessa não esquecer

I remembered the Saint, not to forget the promise

Em pouco tempo, a roça ficou viçosa

In a short time, the field became lush

A criação já pastava, floresceu meu cafezal!

The creation was already grazing, my coffee plantation flourished!

Fui na capela e levei três pingos d'água

I went to the chapel and brought three drops of water

Um foi o pingo da chuva, dois caíram do meu olhar!

One was the raindrop, two fell from my eyes!
